The Role
We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to take ownership of our core services and drive technical excellence across our engineering organization. In this role, you will architect and build scalable APIs, optimize our data infrastructure, and provide technical leadership to our growing engineering team. This is an opportunity to make significant architectural decisions and shape the technical direction of our platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain production backend services using Python and FastAPI
- Own the architecture and implementation of core APIs that serve our platform
- Scale and optimize our data pipeline to handle growing volumes and complexity
- Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code with a focus on pragmatic solutions
- Mentor and guide mid-level engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and technical discussions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and system reliability issues
- Contribute to engineering best practices, standards, and documentation
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of professional experience building and maintaining production backend systems
- Strong expertise in Python and modern web frameworks, particularly FastAPI or similar
- Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL, including query optimization, indexing strategies, and database design
- Proven track record of designing and implementing RESTful APIs at scale
- Experience with data pipelines and ETL processes
- Strong commitment to testing practices, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a bias toward pragmatic, maintainable solutions
- Experience mentoring or leading other engineers
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with message queues and event-driven architectures
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability tools
- Background in distributed systems and microservices architecture
- Contributions to open-source projects
