About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems that power our platform. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions that meet business objectives and enhance user experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure backend services and APIs
- Architect and implement microservices-based solutions using modern technologies and best practices
- Optimize application performance, including database queries, caching strategies, and system bottlenecks
- Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver end-to-end features
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code with comprehensive test coverage
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to their professional development
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in a timely manner
- Contribute to technical architecture decisions and system design discussions
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending improvements to existing systems
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development
- Strong proficiency in one or more backend programming languages such as Python, Java, Go, Node.js, or Ruby
- Extensive experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis, DynamoDB)
- Solid understanding of RESTful API design principles and microservices architecture
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure
- Proficiency with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Strong understanding of software development best practices, including version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing
- Experience with message queuing systems (RabbitMQ, Kafka, SQS) and event-driven architectures
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex systems
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GraphQL and modern API technologies
- Knowledge of security best practices and experience implementing authentication/authorization systems
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana)
- Experience with serverless architectures and functions-as-a-service
- Contributions to open-source projects or active participation in the developer community
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments
- Understanding of DevOps practices and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
