The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Guitar Tutor to join our team of music educators. In this remote position, you will work one-on-one with beginner students through virtual video lessons, helping them build a strong foundation in guitar playing. This is an excellent opportunity for a patient and encouraging instructor who loves sharing their passion for music and watching students grow from their very first chord to confident playing.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct engaging one-on-one guitar lessons with beginner students via video conferencing platforms
  • Develop and deliver personalized lesson plans tailored to each student's learning pace, goals, and musical interests
  • Teach fundamental guitar skills including proper hand positioning, basic chords, strumming patterns, and fingerpicking techniques
  • Introduce students to essential music theory concepts in an accessible and practical manner
  • Guide students in reading guitar tablature and understanding basic musical notation
  • Track and document student progress over time, adjusting teaching methods to optimize learning outcomes
  • Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to build student confidence and motivation
  • Recommend appropriate practice exercises and resources for students to use between lessons
  • Maintain a positive and supportive virtual learning environment that fosters creativity and enjoyment
  • Communicate regularly with students (and parents, when applicable) regarding progress and goals

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated proficiency in playing guitar with a solid understanding of fundamental techniques and music theory
  • Previous experience teaching guitar to beginners, either in-person or online
  • Exceptional patience and the ability to break down complex concepts into simple, understandable steps
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to connect with students of various ages and backgrounds
  • Encouraging teaching style that motivates students and celebrates their progress
  • Comfortable using video conferencing technology and online teaching tools
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection and a quiet, professional space for conducting lessons
  • Flexibility to accommodate student schedules, including potential evening and weekend availability
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple students and track individual progress effectively
  • Passion for music education and genuine enthusiasm for helping beginners discover their musical abilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal music education or teaching certification
  • Experience with multiple guitar styles (acoustic, electric, classical)
  • Familiarity with various online learning platforms and digital teaching resources
  • Ability to teach basic music production or recording concepts
